About
The therapist behind Build & Bloom.
Emily is a mental health nurse and therapist specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy. She is also currently completing training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, continuing to develop her ability to provide compassionate, trauma-informed support.
Career
Emily began her career as a mental health nurse in 2015, initially working on a secure men's ward before joining a crisis team, where she supported people experiencing acute mental health difficulties. In 2021, she moved into a role providing low intensity psychological interventions to people serving in the military.
In 2024, Emily completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. She now uses CBT to help people understand their individual formulation, recognise the cycles of thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may be holding them back and develop the skills needed to create meaningful and lasting change. Since then, she has completed additional training in Cognitive Processing Therapy and continues to expand her trauma-focused practice through EMDR training.

Emily is accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), the lead organisation for CBT in the United Kingdom, as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist.

How Emily works
Every approach Emily uses is grounded in strong evidence, and applied in a way that respects the pace you set.
CBT
A structured, evidence-based approach that looks at how thoughts, feelings and behaviour connect, and builds practical tools you can use between sessions.
CPT
A structured therapy developed specifically for the effects of trauma, focused on making sense of difficult experiences and how they have shaped how you see yourself and the world.
EMDR
A trauma-focused therapy that uses guided attention to help the brain process difficult memories so they feel less intense.
Emily is currently an EMDR trainee, developing her skills to offer trauma-informed therapy to those who need it.
Why this work
Build & Bloom was founded to give people autonomy: to empower individuals to become their own therapist, build on their own foundations and reach their potential.
Small, steady steps. Change rarely happens in one leap. Sessions are practical and forward-looking, without rushing anything.
For strength athletes
Alongside her professional experience, Emily is a strength athlete who understands first-hand the influence that confidence, fear, self-belief and emotional wellbeing can have on performance. She created Build & Bloom to bring together her clinical knowledge and personal experience within strength sport, providing a dedicated space for athletes to explore the psychological barriers that may be limiting their progress.
Emily is passionate about helping strength athletes unlock their potential, overcome fear and develop the tools to become their own therapists. Through Build & Bloom, her aim is to empower athletes to perform with greater confidence, build resilience and flourish both on and off the competition floor.
Outside the therapy room
Emily has been competing in strongwoman since 2025, giving her a first-hand understanding of what it's like to be on the competition floor. She has done her own work to manage her athlete mindset, including tackling beliefs that have got in her way. She trains out of Prevail Strength and Conditioning in Sleaford and currently competes at inters level.
She has developed with every competition, win or otherwise. Some have ended on the podium, others further down the field, but each one has shaped the athlete she is today: someone who is eager to learn, wants to keep developing and wants to enjoy the process along the way.
Her favourite strongwoman moment so far was competing in Wales's Strongest Woman 2025. It was a brilliant day, and although the athlete walkout was well outside her comfort zone, the Dragon Stones at the end were a definite highlight. After the eighth stone, she remembers looking over to her boyfriend and family and simply smiling. It was one of the proudest moments of her life, and she felt things she didn't know she could feel. She hopes everyone who competes gets to experience that same feeling at least once.
There have been lows along the way too, as there are with anything worth doing, but every session and every competition continues to teach her something new about herself.
Outside the competition floor, you'll find Emily reading, drinking coffee and spending time with her cats.
